About Sydney and the event precinct
Sydney has so much to offer, iconic landmarks, amazing nature and incredible dinning and nightlife.
Western Sydney is one of the largest, most diverse and fastest growing economies in Australia, with its own vibrant cultural identity and iconic sports venues, events and new attractions drawing visitors to the region.
Penrith is a dynamic area located 50 km west of the Sydney central business district and is the administrative centre for the local government area of the City of Penrith. It lies east of the Nepean River.
Penrith Lakes, home to the 2000 Sydney Olympic International Regatta Centre, encompasses the event precinct. The compact event precinct is surrounded by the tree lined Penrith Lakes, has open grassy areas to relax and everything you need for your race.
Swim Cut off Time – 1:10:00 hour The 1 lap swim course is situated in the man made, sheltered Penrith Lake home to the 2000 Olympic Sydney International Regatta Center (SIRC), perfect for the nervous swimmer. The iconic and purpose built facility is the perfect swim course for both spectators and athletes as the rectangular shaped course starts and finishes in front of the grandstand before exiting to Transition.
Bike Cut off Time – 5:00:00 from Wave start Athletes will take in scenic views of the Blue Mountains and roll through the countryside on the two lap bike course. Cyclists will leave the race precinct via McCarthys Lane, heading around Whitewater Stadium (hitting it again on the second lap) before making their way onto Castlereagh Rd and head towards The Driftway via Brookes Lane. Athletes will return to the precinct via McCarthy’s Lane and completing their ride over the bridge and towards transition. Smooth road surfaces will see fast course times as they head onto the run course while introducing technical turns for a challenge.
Run Cut Off – 8:00:00 hour from Wave Start After some fantastic athlete feedback, the 2016 brand new run course is making a comeback and set at the base of the stunning Blue Mountains and Nepean River, along The Great River Walk right alongside the Sydney International Regatta Centre before returning runners re-live the best of the 2000 Olympic venue as the rest of the run course encircles the iconic Penrith Lake. The course will complete 1.5 laps heading out and back around the lakes perimeter on the inner footpath, whilst spectators can watch from the grandstand or meet and track athletes from the outer footpath. Athletes will return to the Festival Village in front of the grandstand to celebrate down the finish chute. The close and compact course will create a stadium-like atmosphere for all to enjoy.
