Beautiful Bayside Geelong

Geelong is a city southwest of Melbourne, Australia. It is an hour’s drive from Melbourne CBD. Lining its bay, The Waterfront esplanade has a 19th-century carousel, plus a curved art deco boardwalk and sea bath at Eastern Beach. Scattered along The Waterfront are the Baywalk Bollards, colourful sculptures chronicling city history. The Geelong Botanic Gardens lie at the eastern end of the bay.

The weather during race day in Geelong will be an average temperature of 25 degrees. However the state of Victoria is renowned for having large fluctuations in temperature, and even in the warmer months, the temperature can drop so we recommend our athletes pack for all weather occasions.

ROKA Swim Course: 1.9km

The ROKA Swim course is a 1.9km swim in the calm waters of Corio bay where February water temperatures average just over 18 degrees Celsius, so have those wetsuits ready! The race starts on the beach using a wave start format before athletes swim 800 metres out into the bay to make their first right hand turn of the swim course. Athletes then head another 700m back towards shore for another right hand turn and after a further 300m they then make a final left hand turn to start the last 100m to shore, before beginning the short run into transition.

Ventum Bike Course: 90km

The Ventum Bike Course is a 90km, 2 lap course where you’ll get a chance to head out along the open roads of Geelong. After exiting transition onto Ritchie Boulevard, get ready for your first climb of the day as you head towards the top of Eastern Beach road for some great views of Geelong. Navigate your way through the picturesque Eastern Park Circuit before getting a chance to open up those legs as you turn onto Ryrie Street. Athletes make a sweeping left hand turn onto Point Henry Road that takes you out past the salt lakes and to the Northern tip of the Bay. Athletes then head back down South and make another left hand turn to get back onto Portarlington Road where it’s a straight shot towards the Curlewis Golf Club where you’ll turn around, head back towards town and do it all over again!

Run: 21.1km

The Run Course is a 21.1km run that takes athletes along the stunning Geelong waterfront during the 2.5 lap course. The clockwise course takes you out along the Esplanade and through Rippleside Park before heading inbound along the stunning water’s edge. Head back past the iconic Geelong Pier before running under the famous Geelong Star as you receive cheers of support from the Tri Club vVillage in Ritchie Boulevard. Head back past transition up to the top of Hearne Parade to the far run turn, which means only 1.5 laps to go! On your final lap you’ll make a right hand turn into Steampacket Gardens where’ll you’ll finally get to cross that finish line!
